What Barbara Does!
Barbara recently had a longtime client ask her for a consultation to make some Interior Design changes in her “FOREVER” home.
Her Client wanted to redo all the flooring throughout her California casual Farmhouse Modern/Ranch home in a single easy care tile product. She requested Barbara to find a way to enlarge her Dining Room. In addition, she wanted to renovate her Kitchen with new easy care products and maybe do some tweaks to her Master Bathroom.
Her Client rescues dogs and horses and that was a major factor that prompted her to do the change to easy care flooring. The dogs also would skid on some of the existing flooring as they played in the house.
Barbara and her Client decided that they would take some space from an adjacent large Home Office and move a wall so they could enlarge the Dining Room.
Since her Client was not interested in removing the load bearing wall that was between the Kitchen and Dining Room, they made the existing opening between the two rooms into a Pickup station for her preferred Buffet entertaining style and incorporated the same Quartz Countertop as the new Kitchen.
The new Kitchen had a Farmhouse/Modern vibe with a Handmade Subway Tile backsplash, a new Black Silgranit Farm Sink and an Electronic Faucet with a touch on/off system and pull out spray feature for sanitation needs. All the appliances were Black Stainless and had many conveniences that did not exist when the Kitchen was originally installed.
Since Barbara was hired as the Interior Designer and Project Manager on the project she worked closely with all the Vendors and the Contractor and their team to make sure everything was done correctly and to current design and building codes.
In the existing Master Bath that Barbara designed in 2006, her Client wanted to remove her seldom used free standing Sauna unit. So Barbara suggested that a new large Linen Closet could be designed with built-in shelves, storage drawers, laundry drawer and dressing area in that space.
In addition to the new Wood-look Tile flooring shown above, and since California is a state that can have earthquakes, several new Balance Bars were also added in the Master Bathroom. They are incorporated in the Shower and in the Toilet area where people are more vulnerable.
This casual Farmhouse Modern/Ranch style home had a 4 horse stable on the property.
With all the upkeep and tracked-in dirt that implies, in addition to the rescue dogs she regularly takes in, she needed a new floor throughout the house that was easy to care for and could safely be steam cleaned when necessary.
After viewing in person many Flooring vendors’ offerings, Barbara and her Client decided on a very authentic Wood Look tile to replace the multiple types of wood and tiles that existed throughout the home.
There were existing Wood Cabinets built into the many rooms of the house so the new floor tiles needed to work with the tones of all those different cabinets. Barbara succeeded in getting a floor tile that had varying tones in it that allowed it to look at home in all the various settings – including blending with the existing Kitchen cabinets and the Master Bathroom cabinets.
